How to join Mind’s Eye Society
The Modern Enigma Society, or MES, deals with a variety of mature subjects as we explore the tragedy of the human condition through our metaphors and roleplay. As such, all members are required to be at least 18 years of age (regardless of emancipation). To join the MES, there are a few easy steps. First, just visit our member portal and create an account. From there, under the “My Membership heading” you click “Join”. You can pay your membership fee ($25.00) to the MES, either with credit card, PayPal, or by mail
You can purchase a Gift Membership by logging into the portal, and selecting “Gift Memberships and Cart” from the “My Membership” menu. The member you are renewing needs to already have an account in the member portal. If you enter their membership number, and it says “No matching member found,” then they probably haven’t logged into the portal just yet. Please have them do so, and claim their membership number, and then things should work just fine. Also, for privacy reasons, you have to be a member in order to renew someone else.
For those who aren’t able to pay through the online payment gateway, or simply choose not to, you can also send a check or money order to Modern Enigma Society through postal mail. Remember, though – you can make an online payment even if you don’t have, or want, a PayPal account! We may use them as our payment gateway, but you are not required to have or create an account to complete a transaction.
To send payment by mail, first make sure that you have a MES membership number. If you don’t have one yet, please sign up for a free trial account through the member portal so that we have a membership to apply your payment to.

Please allow 2-4 weeks for mail delivery and processing before your renewal is reflected in the online member portal.
Internet access is required to complete the process to join the MES, but if you do not have Internet access yourself, just ask an existing MES member for help. Note: be sure that anyone helping you ensures that all your information is indicated clearly and the that the membership is for you, particularly if paying by mail, to avoid confusion. A large network of people to help out when needed is one of the many benefits of MES membership!
That being said, if you are just wanting to try out the MES but don’t want to commit to a full membership, you can sign up as a Trial Member. There is no cost associated with this, and it will allow you to portray characters in any MES sanctioned game. More information on that further down.
You may end your membership either by simply not renewing once your membership has expired, or by sending a written letter to the MES formally withdrawing from the organization. If your membership simply expires, you may join again at any time later and pick up right where you left off, keeping the same characters, member class and other benefits of membership as if you had remained a member the entire time. It is a good idea to keep all of your own records, to be sure everything can be verified should you rejoin). By withdrawing in writing, you may be giving up the right to these benefits, as determined on a case-by-case basis. Membership may also be terminated by the MES in some cases.
