Games

Which game do you want to play? The Modern Enigma Society offers its players many options. Browse through the game summaries below.

The MES Chronicles have three distinct continuities: Vampire the Masquerade, Werewolf the Apocalypse, and Chronicles of Darkness. Each of these universes are separate from the other, but within that universe all games exist in the same universe.

Each chronicle/universe exists in a global continuity: everyone in MES, no matter where on earth you are, will be playing the same story across the country. This is what truly separates MES from other roleplaying groups: the actions taken in one community, or even by one player, can affect players all over the world. As a member of MES, your characters might host visitors from New England as you interact with players from Boston, arrest a fugitive wanted by the characters in Hawaii., or fight off an invasion in Kansas City.

Modern Enigma Genres

Modern Enigma Society hosts a variety of different game genres set in the World of Darkness. You can read more about each setting by clicking on the genre’s links below.

Vampire: The Masquerade – End to Dawn

“In Vampire: The Masquerade, there are no heroes. Players portray the monsters, feeding on and manipulating the living. Vampires are not good people, and you are not playing the good guy.” -Laws of the Night
The pace of technological change in modern nights is terrifying when you step back far enough to look at it. A century and a half ago, humankind had discovered neither the microbe nor the atom but now they can manipulate both – for wonders, yes, but also for terrors, weapons that can wipe out an entire species or unleash the force of the sun itself upon an entire city. The more we know, the more we find out we don’t know how deadly these new marvels will prove to be.
It is in this world, a dark mirror of our own, that humanity is slowly starting to learn that vampirism isn’t a meme or a dream or something from a work of fiction.

Werewolf: The Apocalypse – On Frayed Threads

In 2011 it began with a rumor… In 2012 it escalated to a fact… We’ve been dealing with the fallout ever since.

The Age of Apocalypse raged across the world with no ending in sight. Garou, Fera and their kin were still fighting for their futures across every battlefield they could. The facts of the matter though, were that they were losing, falling behind their enemies and the war of attrition wasn’t doing them any favors.

We’re human, remember that.

You saw something, experienced something, and it changed you. It is different for each of us. Gary saw a ghost when he was twelve that helped him with his homework. Sal was bit by a vampire at a rave, and they dated for, like, a year. Kia walked through a weird door and was lost in a magical thicket for a week. And Jonathan, well, his family was torn to shreds by werewolves. I never said that what happened to you was good. But… It happened.

And nothing has ever quite been the same since. You got a glimpse of the supernatural that lurks on the other side of the carefully curated reality that is our everyday life. Did you try to tell someone about it? I bet you did. And they thought you were crazy, right? Well, you ain’t. There are things out there that are mind breaking, and weird, and fascinating, and they really do not want us to know about them.

But there is more to it than that. It isn’t just knowledge. You’re still human, but now… now you are something more too. You’ve been touched by the supernatural. We each developed some new ability, some odd bit of power, related to whatever supernatural experience interrupted our lives, and frankly, that’s usually just the start. Psychometry, telekinesis, dream walking, seeing spirits…. There’s some real weird paranormal shit you might pick up. But you’re still human, remember that.

And you’re not alone.
